Node 3

Node 3 is located on the first floor and contains some of the lighting and heating controls. In an ideal world all of this would be in Node 0 but the oak frame design provides no easy method of getting all of the 'home run' cables from the ceiling space through to the dedicated cupboard where Node 0 lives. Node 3 also contains the 2 circulation pumps, 2 manifolds and the associated actuators, one per radiator.

Originally this control box was destined for Node 1 but 90% through the build it was realised that it would be better in Node 3, adjacent to the heating.

As a forethought a 12 way cable was run from Node 3 to Node 1, just in case. This is now used to control the relays in Node 1 from the xAP Netiom's. If more capacity is required an additional xAP Netiom could be added.

The detail of Node 3 is in this PDF file.

The picture shows one of the Phaedrus Netiom-xAP units wired up in the cabinet. There are a set of relays for the individual room actuator valves and for the compact fluorescents.

There is one relay not on the panel and this is the fallback relay. When activated by a keyswitch (externally) then all the relays operate off a single mechanical thermostat on the landing. The gives heating control in the event of system failure (PC, sensors, TOM10 and Netioms) but not 24V supply or 230V UPS.

This shows the cabinet in outline. There are two power supplies - 24V at 10 Amps and 5V at 2A.

The orange artic 230V cable is for testing. In situ it will be replaced by a feed from the UPS in Node 0.

The top rail (RHS in picture) is the input rail. At one end is the connection for the fan(s) on the front cover.
